Eden Home Testimony

After many years of wanting to go, my family and I finally went on a mission trip to Eden Home in Mongolia in the last week of June. With Sarnai’s many posts on Facebook about the children, I couldn’t wait to meet them.

From the second I walked through the door, I was flooded with very tight hugs and squeezes. I immediately felt their love for us, reminding me of God’s unconditional love for all of us. Their genuine care for each other (and even strangers like us) were a true reflection of His love, and how we should treat each other. I can definitely say that they taught me more than I taught them. They taught me about faithfulness in prayer - that with devotion, I can trust in Him for all things, because even though it seemed like there was no hope for them before Eden Home, they continued to pray. They taught me about hope, about not to lose faith when things get rough, as hope produces perseverance. They taught me about gratefulness; gratefulness in all that God has blessed me with - a loving family, a safe place to worship, a roof over my head, shoes to walk in.

My family and I went during a relatively “comfortable” time for the children, as they were on their school summer holiday, therefore we didn’t experience what they go through during their harsh winter months. Temperatures can reach -40˚C, and on top of that, they have to endure through air pollution with PSI’s over 1000 annually, due to the burning of whatever people can get hold of - vodka bottles, rubber tires, rubbish, to keep warm. I cannot even begin to imagine the conditions they go through - I couldn’t even tolerate the haze and smell Singapore’s 300 PSI produced a few years ago. Many of the children suffer from respiratory related medical illnesses during these months (which calls for more expenses), making me think how devastating it is that the most needy get affected the worst by things out of their control. They deserve so much better than this.

I was so impressed by the childrens’ depth of faith, understanding and knowledge of God’s Word. I had the privilege of lettering their chosen verses on the walls of their 3 rooms - 1 Corinthians 13:13 for the boys (Sarnai said they were romantics hahah), Hebrews 11:1 for the girls, and John 15:5 for the playroom. Although we had a language barrier, I didn’t need a translation to understand their priceless reactions when they saw the finished piece, it brought me to tears. I am in awe of how their faith is so deeply rooted in Him at such a young age, because mine definitely wasn’t, making me witness the great works that God is doing in their hearts; it is truly amazing to see Him work in them.

The works of Sarnai is one of the many ways the verse “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength” - Philippians 4:13 has really been brought to life. From setting up and building the Eden Home from scratch, to giving the children an education; it truly reflects that anything is possible when we rely on God. This whole experience has really encouraged and opened my heart to do more to support the future of Eden Home. Having formed such a strong bond and getting so attached to the kids, I decided to put the gift of lettering that God has blessed me with to use by creating some pieces to sell for donation. I hope they can not only be a reminder of His faithfulness for you, but also soften your hearts to support the children.
